EVENTS : Promoting Community Spirit

Suffragettes in Camden [more]
We've heard news of an exhibition to be held in Camden Local Studies and Archives Centre from 14th June that will interest many of you. “A Stone’s Throw from Westminster: Suffragettes and Other Feminists in Camden” is being curated by Dr Susan Croft and Irene Cockroft of Unfinished Histories. It explores the contribution of suffrage activists based in Camden, setting that history in the larger context of the struggle for women’s rights - from the militancy of the WSPU based in Kingsway to the law-abiding activism of Millicent Fawcett in Gower Street; from the 1912 Women’s March in Edinburgh that entered London at Camden Town to the suffragette who raced a stolen fire engine down Tottenham Court Road.

Marchmont Street Party - the story so far [more]
The Marchmont Association organised the very popular Marchmont Street Party from 2006 to 2014, except for 2011, when we organised a launch event for the Marchmont Community Garden instead. The event has always had two simple aims: (1) To bring local people together for a day of fun and (2) To help break down barriers between different sections of the community. It also provided an opportunity for local community groups and charities to raise much needed funds, whilst enabling our many partner organisations to reach a wider audience.

MA Committee meetings [more]
Following a request made by MA supporters at our AGM in May 2016, we agreed to consider posting the Minutes of MA Committee meetings on our website. The Minutes of each meeting have been posted since then and will be replaced with the most recent Minutes after each meeting. See link below.

Bloomsbury Festival 2018: Activists & Architects of Change [more]
Festival Director, Kate Anderson, has announced the theme of the 2018 Bloomsbury Fesitival, set for 17-21 October 2018. "We are pleased to announce next year's Festival theme will be 'Activists and Architects of Change'. 2018 marks the centenary of the Representation of the People Act, which permitted women to vote for the first time. Whilst this wasn't all women (or indeed all men...) it was a crucial moment in the campaign for equality. Bloomsbury has a rich history of activism and its institutions, thinkers and scientists continue to pioneer change across the arts and sciences. We anticipate an interesting and inspiring 2018 Festival!"
