EVENTS : Promoting Community Spirit

Marchmont Street Party - Intro [more]

The Marchmont Association has organised the very popular Marchmont Street Party since 2006. We had two simple aims: 1. To bring local people together for a day of fun and 2. To help break down barriers between different sections of the community. The event enables local community groups to raise much needed funds to support their year-round activities and gives our many partner organisations a great opportunity to reach a wider audience.

2012 - Marchmont Street Party [more]

The Marchmont Street Party, held on Saturday 15th September 2012, was a great success. The eclectic mix of live music was enjoyed by event-goers, with many dancing in the street to the rhythms of the bands, especially the 'Northern Celts' and 'Coco Xpress' (pictured). 'Ashanti Development' marching band caused a stir with their rousing music and surprise 'interaction' with the Deputy Mayor of Camden. Punch & Judy kept large numbers of children enthralled with 3 traditional shows, whilst the jugglers, John & Jonathan, amused and amazed the crowds in equal measure.

2010 - Marchmont Street Party [more]

Another successful event, thanks to the sunny weather and great turnout by local groups and partner organisations, which combined to make 2010 our biggest event yet. The undoubted highlight of the show was the very first appearance of the wonderfully versatile, 30 piece Lambeth Wind Orchestra playing songs from the shows, pop classics and requests from event-goers. We also welcomed back two crowd favourites of previous events, Luis Lema's Salsa Band and Tropical Heatwave who, together with first-timers Cut A Shine Hoedown Band, had event-goers dancing non-stop in the street.

2009 - Marchmont Street Party [more]

MSP 2009 was organised at the start of the 'credit-crunch' when businesses were beginning to feel the pinch. As a result, we were not able to gain the usual level of sponsorship. This gave us an opportunity to focus on local talent, with local bands agreeing to perform for expenses only. Although this was not universally appreciated by event-goers, who were accustomed to be entertained by professional musicians, the day was a great success, not least because it was a glorious sunny day, with many local groups telling us that they made record takings on their fund-raising stalls.

2008 - Marchmont Street Fair [more]

We introduced a traditional village fair theme to this year's event, hence the slight name change. However, the established format of live bands with more children's entertainment (in response to feedback from event-goers) proved successful. Highlights of the event were the Chinese Lion Dancers, Tropical Heatwave Carribean band and the exciting Bharngra Band from Birmingham, being the only such band with female drummers and dancers.
