The Marchmont Association organised the very popular Marchmont Street Party from 2006 to 2014, with the notable exception of 2011, when we organised a launch event for the Marchmont Community Garden. The event had two simple aims: (1) To bring local people together for a day of fun and (2) To help break down barriers between different sections of the community. It also provided an opportunity for local community groups and charities to raise much needed funds, whilst enabling our many partner organisations to reach a wider audience.

Large and diverse crowds were drawn to the event each year by its eclectic mix of live music, children's entertainment and a plethora of stalls and sideshows run by local groups, businesses, residents and partner organisations (80+ stalls in 2014). The biggest crowd pleasers over the years have been Tropical Heatwave and Luis Lema's Salsa Band. Other popular bands have included Ashanti Development Marching Band, Northern Celts, Coco Xpress, Lambeth Wind Orchestra, Cut-a-Shine Hoedown Band, the London School of Samba and the Birmingham Bangra band (pictured). Special attractions have included the 'BIG Plant Give-Aways' organised by the Marchmont Community Garden Partnership (funded by BLF) in partnership with Camden Garden Centre in 2012 and with Vital Flowers in 2013.

This popular annual event would not have been possible without the support of our generous sponsors and donors, our most regular supporters being Holiday Inn hotel, Waitrose, Gino Hairdressing, the Marquis Cornwallis pub and Camden Council. We also enjoyed the occasional generous support of the Big Lottery Fund, Balfour Restaurant, Burger & Shake, Imperial London Hotels Ltd, Judd Books, Fork Deli, Tavistock Dental, Tesco, Hermes, Frank Harris & Co., Drury Porter Eyecare, UNITE hostel, CV Hair & Beauty, Fyfe McDade, Ciao Bella restaurant and New Bloomsbury Set. We are also indebted to the many local businesses who have donated goods and services, which enabled us to raise much needed funds for the association with our popular Tombola & Raffle. We were fortunate to receive a Big Lottery Fund grant in 2013, which covered approximately half the cost of the event, but we were not able to apply again, so we needed to find another big sponsor, which turned out to be the University of London/UPP, whose generous support enabled MSP 2014 to proceed. Special appreciation is reserved for Richard Sharples, who has generously given his time and considerable artistic talent to design our beautiful banners, posters and flyers for no fee.

Regular feedback from event-goers and stallholders helped us to keep improving the event, such as in 2014 when we took a risk with the weather and shifted the date by a few weeks to the end of September, to enable new and existing University students to participate for the first time. The result was arguably our biggest and best event ever. Our voluntary MSP Organiser announced that he would no longer be able to organise the event, after 9 successful years, and we were not able to find another volunteer to take on the job. In the meantime we had been talking to local organisations about taking over the event or partnering MA to deliver it. We are pleased to announce the return of the event in September 2017 - organised by MA in partnership with the King's Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Association, whose HQ is based in Marchmont Street. We have raised sufficient funds through the generous sponsorship of local businesses and a small grant from Camden Council, and our past supporters have been invited to apply for stalls on the day. Old favourites, Tropical Heatwave and the Northern Celts have signed up to perform on the live stage with more to come. We are also aiming to provide a fun fair and lots of children's entertainments.
