A Marchmont Association blue plaque commemorating the great theatre impresario, Richard D'Oyly Carte (1844-1901), will be unveiled at the site of his former home on Tuesday 7th August from 2pm, in the presence of the Mayor of Camden and representatives of the D'Oyly Carte Theatre Company.

He lived at 71 Russell Square from 1881 to 1886, which was accessed via an entrance in Guilford Street, now occupied by the President Hotel.

We are grateful to Imperial London Hotels Ltd for sponsoring this plaque.

Details of D'Oyly Carte's life are revealed in our historical publication, 'From Fields to Fountains - The Story of Bloomsbury's Russell Square' (p. 120).
